Living History

I am involved in community archaeological excavation projects as well as experimental archaeology mostly based on the early medieval period. I also organise living history courses in Viking Age metalwork techniques.

My interest in experimental archaeology started at the age of seventeen when I entered the re-enactment world. It was at the meeting point of both my passions for archaeology and craft.

I have recently submitted my PhD thesis in partnership with the University of Exeter and the University of Reading. My research investigates the evidence, use and performance of stone-tipped spear technologies among Neanderthal populations in the European Middle Palaeolithic.

I am a prehistoric archaeologist and I have always been interested in experimental archeology and historical re-enactment. I studied Archaeology first at the University of Modena and then at the University of Bologna where I graduated with Prof.

I’ve been possessed by the classical world since Latin class, but only got involved with it decades later. As a living history member of Legio XX in the Washington DC area, we have shifted our focus to education and interaction with students and the public. 

My name is Florian Messner and currently I'm writing my PhD in medieval archaeology at the University of Innsbruck. In my work I aim to thoroughly examine all extant swords from the 10th to the 15th century from the region of historical Tyrol.

I graduated in 2012 from the University of York with an MA in Medieval Archaeology. My profession focus is on the archaeology of the Viking Age in the British Isles, concentrating on Viking Age Burial practices.

I have been a PhD scholar in the School of Archaeology, UCD, since 2016. My research relates to food, culture and identity in Ireland c. 1200-1500. My focus is on the culinary aspect of food, with a particular interest in bread.

I am a non traditional student reentering academia after a 30 yr Hiatus. I was a volunteer with the North Carolina Office of State Archaeology for several years in my earlier years. I have now decided to return to gain a degree in Anthropology and Geology.

I am a live interpreter focussing on theatre and storyteling methods in the museum and heritage context.
