Using original medieval techniques and tools such as those from the 14th century, a royal court of Emperor Karl IV was built in Bärnau over the next 20 years. In this 2-day course, under the guidance of our master craftsmen, you will learn how to traditionally cut a beam with a carpenter's ax and other hand tools. In addition, you will be given extensive knowledge of the raw material wood and the necessary tools.
Content:
- Selection and measurement of the tree trunk
- History and development of the axes used for cutting
- Correct care and safe use of the tool
- Work with the ax and the carpenter's hatchet from the round trunk to the beam
- Notch technique for time-saving work
- Surface treatment of wood with an ax and a draw knife
Scope of the course:
- Supervision and guidance by professional master craftsmen in small groups
- Tools and aids are made available, but you are welcome to bring your own tools and try them out
- Mediation of interesting facts about the medieval construction site and the historical park
- Practical course time 11 hours
- Certificate of successful participation in the course
- Meals: 1x lunch (1 dish + 1 drink), snacks and non-alcoholic drinks during the course units
