Workshop: Early medieval block printing on silk with natural colors
The archaeological and historical finds of silk are a fascinating and extensive topic. In the course, however, we focus in the templates on the 9th and 10th centuries, with templates from Chernikov and the tombs of the Moscevaja Balka.
In the course you will learn something about the background of early medieval silk production in the Orient, the spread of silk via the Silk Road to Western Europe and the printed textile finds from today's Russia.
With colors that are produced according to a recipe from the 11th century, you print your own piece of silk (1 x 1.3 m) under instruction. The fabric as well as the colors can be chosen by yourself. After drying, the fabric is washable and can be used as a scarf or for your own sewing projects.
Since nobody wants to get stressed at the weekend, we organize our workshop in the usual cozy atmosphere with a cup of coffee or tea. The work itself offers ample opportunity for a nice chat with the course instructor and the other participants.
Due to the limited number of participants, we ask you to register in advance.
