Beginners without previous knowledge can learn the basics in this course. After an introduction and practical demonstrations of early medieval forging technology, material and tool science, the participants work on mobile field forges. Every beginner should make an awl, a fire steel, a ring brooch and possibly a knife blade.

Jens Eichler, freelance blacksmith from Telgte in Westphalia, has been leading blacksmith courses in the Archäologischen Freilichtmuseum since 2008. After completing his apprenticeship with Markus Balbach in Weilmünster, trade examination and first prize in the national competition for artisan youth, Jens Eichler founded his workshop "Funkenflug" in Telgte.

The price for the adult seminars includes all necessary materials. Tools are provided.
