Precision work from the Viking workshop
Business in Haithabu was often paid for with hacked silver. These were crushed coins and pieces of jewelry that were weighed on handy scales. The traveling merchants carried these collapsible scales on their belts. Such fine scales were also used for valuable materials such as spices, medicines, pearls and precious stones.
Stop by Matthias Barkmann's stand this weekend and experience how this highly sensitive measuring instrument is made by dealers.
