Haul yourself into the harness!
During the last weekend of August, the knights settle in the pre-Historic Village. Several knights' troops show the camp life of knights in the Middle Ages.
- How were they knighted?
- How is a chain mail made?
- What was eaten in the Middle Ages?
- What did a knight's encampment look like?
Living history group the Hospitallers and the knights of the Lords of Altena are happy to see and experience all this and more. The Hospitallers depict life at the time of the medieval crusades and are highly skilled craftsmen. The Lords (and ladies) of Altena practice all kinds of fine crafts and perform their martial arts. Dressed in yellow with red salmon, they demonstrate the various medieval weapons and techniques with which people used to attack each other.
There is also plenty to do for the youngest among the knights: go for a real sword fighting lesson, try on a suit of armor, weigh a sword or write letters with a quill pen. So bring your wooden sword and shield and learn the techniques of the past!
