For the 950th anniversary of the Imad cathedral, we offer a journey through time to the Middle Ages!
From 24 June to 19 August 2018, the Erlebniswelt Lebendige Dombauhütte will bring a colorful variety of medieval craftsmanship to the present in the garden of the Abdinghof Abbey. At ten different stations there will be hands-on activities from different construction stages of our cathedral.
How does an impeller crane work? Why use wolf claw and devil tooth? When getting to know different craft techniques, visitors of all ages can touch them. Medieval wheelbarrows and even a truck are ready to try. You can cover a roof, work wood and try as a stonemason.
On several days of action (24 and 30 June, 1, 14 and 15 July, 11, 12, 18 and 19 August) professionals present their skills, such as blacksmith, carpenter and master builder. The offer of the Bauhütten-Kantine with medieval food and drinks provides for the physical well-being.
In addition, a bell caster will make a small bell. Visitors can watch him from the first touch and ask questions. After four to five weeks of hard preparation, the bell will be poured in front of everyone's eyes.
A special highlight awaits all time-travel fans on 18 and 19 August 2018: Then a medieval bishop with his noble entourage visits the construction site. Let yourself be surprised by further authentic insights into the former life.
The Living Dombauhütte is suitable for children from primary school age and adults; also for groups.
Constant expert supervision and guidance are available on site.
