The healing power of local plants can be found out during the active weekend on November 7th and 8th, 2020 in MAMUZ Castle Asparn / Zaya. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., all kinds of interesting facts about the millennia-old history and practice of smoking will be imparted in the archaeological outdoor area. The focus is on various local herbs, flowers and resins, which our Stone Age ancestors used for healing and ritual purposes. On site, visitors can "sniff" a rich selection of incense and have a very personal incense mixture put together from them. Every visitor will be able to smoke at home afterwards!
At 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., guided tours through the exhibition in the castle also provide information about the use of herbs in prehistory (3 euros per person). The activity program is included free of charge in the entry price for the entire MAMUZ Prehistory Museum.
Smoking is an ancient tradition that dates back to early human history. In almost all high cultures, smoking ceremonies were carried out to accompany ritual and spiritual acts such as weddings, funerals and prayer. Smoking was also used in folk culture, when farmers used incense to clean their house and farm during the night of Christmas and New Year. Long forgotten, the millennia-old practice is now enjoying increasing popularity again.
At MAMUZ, visitors get an insight into the rich history of smoking and learn which plants are best for it. Whether as a mood lightener, against colds or for mental and physical cleansing - every plant is said to have a special effect that has a positive effect on inner well-being when smoking.
