Deciphering the use of fire in the manipulation of the deceased through experimental approaches: materials, methods and archaeological issues

Yannis Chatzikonstantinouis currently completing his PhD at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. His educational background is in prehistoric archaeology, specialising in osteoarchaeology, and his current research looks at the effect of fire on the human remains in prehistoric Crete ( from the recently excavated Early Minoan cemetery (early 3rd mill. BC) at Koumasa) through macroscopic and analytical methods. His research interest focuses on the study of burned human remains and the understanding of the heat-induced changes on bone structure. In this month's talk, Yannis will present the methods, materials, and issues associated with his research, and will also discuss some different possibilities and tips for getting into PhD research in experimental archaeology.
