1997, Northeast Scotland saw the birth of a new archaeological open-air museum: Archaeolink. Goal is to interpret the Prehistory of NE Scotland via living history, craft/technology demonstrations and archaeological experimentation for the benefit of the general public, academia and the educational sector.
Archaeolink is primarily a Visitor Attraction that explores Scotland’s Prehistory. In addition it serves as an educational outlet for local schools to learn firsthand about the past. It is a multi period presentation, covering the Mesolithic through the Viking era. On occasions archaeologists are involved, like for example a pig cremation experiment with the National Museum of Scotland or Bronze Age pottery experiments.
They closed in 2011.
