Join us for a fun, hands-on, informative course about the skills required in experimental archaeology.  The Mesolithic Resource Group will take you through a full programme including shelter, cordage, tools, foraging and much much more.

This ten week course costs £150.  Booking is essential, and are taken for the whole course. £45.00 deposit to secure your place. 

Experimental Archaeology Newcastle - EXARN (UK)

EXARN (Experimental Archaeology Newcastle) is a recently established PGR led Experimental Archaeology research group within the Archaeology Department at Newcastle University. EXARN, affiliated with the Cluster for Interdisciplinary Artefact Studies (CIAS), promotes the study of material culture, archaeo-materials and ancient technologies through EA.

Its aim is to bring together researchers employing EA and to encourage, aid and inform those interested in this research method, students and academics alike. EXARN's experimental projects are mainly related to the members' own PG research. EXARN organised the 1st Annual Experimental Archaeology Student Symposium, hosted this year at Newcastle University, intended as a completely student-led, student-focused conference.

I started working in the experimental field while still studying at the university. Mostly I do reconstructions of iron objects and medieval shoes. These days I run the forge of the archaeological open-air museum "Bajuwarenhof Kirchheim", where I also present other crafts to the public.

The Iron Age Farm Dongen is a project in which a group of enthusiastic volunteers since 2005 visitors want to show, feel, hear, smell, in short experience the life in the Iron Age in the South Netherlands (800 to 50 BC). On a site of about 1 hectare, this settlement is located just outside the built-up area of ​​Dongen. The people in the Iron Age were farmers. They kept cattle and were farming on fields.
