Pre-History Weekend a chance to taste and smell the past!
The Ancient Technology Centre's Pre-History Weekend is an ideal family day out in Dorset. We blend fun, living history, traditional crafts and skills from Stone Age to Iron Age, with demonstrations and activities to excite children and inform visitors of all ages. Bring a picnic or enjoy locally sourced foods, homemade cake and delicious tea and coffee in the beautiful and timeless setting of this unique open-air museum.
This is the Ancient Technology Centre's first event of the year to showcase the many different and exciting technologies and lifestyles of Prehistoric Britain ranging from the Stone Age to the late Iron Age. Against the backdrop of our spectacular array of buildings, visitors will be able to enjoy a range of activities, demonstrations, living history, and food over the course of the weekend. Experienced flint knappers will be demonstrating different techniques for creating blades and axe heads, together with fire making and hide scraping. Stone Age re-enactors will provide a glimpse into prehistoric times: ancient cooking methods, bronze casting, pottery and much more. Falconry displays will take place during the day and in between displays visitors can look at the birds in close proximity and ask questions. Other hands on activities include textiles - weaving and spinning, cordage bracelet making and prehistoric archery.
