I am a Latin teacher by trade, but for the past 4 years, I've developed courses which live at the intersection of classics and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math). In my Roman Technology class, we reproduce the products and processes of ancient Roman daily life through experimental archaeology. Each class is a hands-on STEM/STEAM workshop with as real tools as possible. We have covered lots of topics including hydraulics, sundials, construction, kilns and ovens, mosaics, spinning and weaving, hair-styling and makeup, warfare, and many others. We start every year with a unit on archaeological sources taught by an archaeology outreach specialist. I look forward to learning from all of the EXARC members out there!
