Crafts & Skills

I am a student at St. Mark's School in Southborough, Massachusetts. From the age of eight, I lived in Hancock, Massachusetts in the Berkshire Hills where I developed an early interest in archery. This led to an interest in the technologies of early humans. I began experimenting with bow making, flint knapping, and making glue from birch bark. I have also made atlatls, crossbows, and various kinds of arrows, including compound arrows from all sorts of locally available materials. For a school project, I made a replica of Ötzi the Iceman’s quiver and some arrows. I have attended the Crow Canyon Archaeological Center’s High School Archaeology Camp in Cortez, Colorado and I plan to attend two different field schools in England during the summer of 2018. I am also interested in ancient Chinese culture and am taking Chinese. I traveled to China in the summer of 2017 and visited several archaeology museums as well as the Forbidden City and the Great Wall. In May of 2018, I will travel to Iceland with a school group to study Icelandic culture, history, and literature. I am passionate about experimental archaeology and I plan to apply to BA programs in archaeology in Europe for entry in September 2019.
