I gained my MA in Experimental Archaeology from the University of Exeter in 2003. Since then I have worked as a blacksmith (specifically a tool maker), specialising in archaeologically accurate reproductions. I demonstrate forgework at shows using an Iron Age setup (ground hearth, pot bellows, etc.) and offer forging classes using historical tool kits covering the last couple of thousand years as well as ethnographic variations. Since 2007 I have been called upon to host the MA class and the archaeology BA students from the University of Exeter for part of their materials module. My workshop is situated within 10 acres of deciduous woodland, where I am able to help archaeology students with practical aspects of their research, whether it be iron or wood related.
