I am a Professor at the University of the Witwatersrand (ZA) and Adjunct Professor at the University of Bergen (Norway). My work in Palaeolithic archaeology includes lithic analysis of Middle Stone Age artefacts. The incorporation of experimental data on lithic production processes and utilisation plays a key role in cultivating a deeper understanding of human behaviour. I also work on the origins of music and musical instruments, and experimental replication and microscopic analysis are vital in identifying sound-producing instruments as indicated by some of my collaborative publications (ORCID iD 0000-0002-0949-5391).
