I am a PhD Student at the University of Western Australia investigating 50,000 years of Aboriginal marine resource use in the northern Carnarvon Bioregion, Western Australia. I have long been interested in experimental archaeology. For part of my studies I have been investigating 1) the manufacture and wearing of late Pleistocene scaphopod shell beads; and 2) the manufacture and use of early Holocene Melo spp. shell erose edged knives. Experimental archaeology has featured in both cases with making and using both the beads and knives to determine manufacture debris patterns and wear patterns on the beads and knives.
