With an official ceremony in Denmark, The Council of Europe certified the organisation “Megalithic Routes” as ‘”European Route of Megalithic culture”. On 27 August, the Megalithic Routes Chair Bodo Zehn received the certificate in the presence of the Culture Minister of Denmark, Marianne Jelved.
Megalithic Routes was started by Danish, Swedish, German and Dutch cultural heritage organisations in order to do more with the megalithic monuments in these countries. Director Klompmaker of the EXARC member the Hunebedcentrum (NL) and treasurer of ‘Megalithic Routes’ is very happy with the official recognition. “This recognition will enable us to further develop education, science and tourist activities. One example is the 21 September ‘Night of Myths & Legends’ which is taking place across all four participating countries. This is a small step towards more. The public will benefit from this.”
For EXARC this cooperation is important where it connects several partners, working in the open air with interpreting our archaeological past in immersive and hands-on ways.
