On April 29, EXARC Member Lorsch Abbey (DE) held their first Day of Experimental Archaeology. At the open-air site, a range of experiments in progress were presented, most of which are part of a series of activities at Lorsch. Mr Kropp, coordinator of the experiments, focusses on the Early Middle Ages with among others ploughing experiments, breeding cows/oxen, the construction of pit houses and monitoring the climate inside the reconstructed early medieval type buildings. All these activities were presented and explained. 

Added to that was a lecture program, with a keynote by professor O’ Sullivan from UCD (also EXARC Board member) as well as a presentation by EXARC director Paardekooper. In the open-air area, several universities, associations and other organisations presented their work as far as relevant to experimental archaeology.
